The Residual is the result of a collaborative partnership between Janine Rissewyck & Nicola Mousa Bajalia II.  Rissewyck and Bajalia began working together in 2012 and have since uncovered a process of creation that calls for a continuous renewal of the shared experience.  Rissewyck is attracted to the evidence of the hand’s presence and, over her career, has developed a rich understanding of repetition in its most subtle form.  Family, location and environment in relation to geography are elemental in Bajalia’s process and the common thread is that of the ritual and the origin is that of the home. Rissewyck and Bajalia live and work in Providence, Rhode Island.

Janine Rissewyckwas born and raised in Moers, Germany in 1984.  She received her BFA in printmaking from SUNY Purchase in 2010.  Since relocating to Providence from New York, Rissewyck has shown in various cities including Providence and Jamaica Plain and was represented by the July Heller Gallery in Provincetown, Cape Cod in 2012.

Nicola Mousa Bajalia II was born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia in 1986 as second generation Palestinian American.  Bajalia received his BFA in Sculpture & Painting from Appalachian State University in 2010.  Bajalia started mouse-ah. Gallery & Studio in 2012, as a collective designed to display local artists’ work as well as to bring together a community of creators from various backgrounds.
